
Pointe Claire, a quiet area situated in The West Island of Montreal is where you can find a range of small businesses. A lot of people aren't aware of the significance of the word, and think it is an independent Island to the west of Montreal. In fact, the West Island includes the entire part of the island from Lachine up to the west. It is often cited as the place where Amanda Brugel was born. Amanda Brugel, but while it's true, her stay there was brief. Brugel was raised in Courtice, outside Oshawa, Ontario. She had a dream to be a dancer, however, her growth spurt led to that she literally outgrew her dance partner. In a piece in the Toronto Star she admitted, "In heels I'm 6'1 inch. As soon as I reached the height of my male partners that I was working together, I made the decision to stop. The majority of dancers who have been ex-dancers now turn to acting and in the case of Brugel it was the nudge of an instructor in drama at high school which pushed her into the proper direction. Her teacher urged her to take part in the school's production. It was the teacher who suggested that she take on a part in the annual school production. The result was that she was given the role of Anne of Green Gables. This led to a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000.In the past 20 years, Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions both on small and big screen, attracting the greatest notice when she won the lead role of Rita in the award-winning show, The Handmaid's Tale
